gifts, giggles, and goose eggs

hope everyone's holiday was lovely. for us, it was a pretty casual, family oriented holiday. on christmas eve, we went to my cousin Joylyn's house. they have such a great homestead. i usually don't dress up when we go, but the night before i found the PERFECT christmas dress! scallops, bright red floral printed satin, off the shoulder sleeves.. *sigh* it was perfect. and for only $8! but of course, i didn't get any good photos of me in it. this is the best one.. but my hair from behind looks a mess.. it's in that in-between mullet stage. i'm sure i'll wear it again. how could i not!
i was playing the player piano (the regular way). but we cranked out a few of the rolls. all of the songs came out pretty allegrissimo, but if you've ever played a player piano, you know that you have to pump fast to get the music started and have to keep up so as not to lose the roll! i'll admit it.. my first time through ave maria was pretty pathetic and i had to start over again. and i may or may not have hit my knees whilst pumping fiercely, but that's ok. i had some wine and mimosas which ended up buffering nicely the whole night.

i haven't gone the past few years for various reasons, and almost didn't go this year, but i'm glad i went. my brother in law had to work, but we brought along our friend mark. here's a photo for good measure, albeit my mother has no idea how to take photos so it's a bit blurry.. oh well. as mark said, "i think it looks great. i think i look fabulous." he is me, mark, and my sister, willow. p.s. check out the GINORMOUS red wine glass they gave to me..
before the night ended, those of us who drink and are of age take shots of bushmills to honor the ones who couldn't be with us and to another year of joy. i blurted out, "and drive safely!" luckily, i didn't have to drive so it didn't apply to me.. on the way home, i think i fell asleep on marks shoulder listening to lucy schwartz. by the time we got home at 7:30, i climbed into bed!

the next morning, i woke up to open presents with my folks. here are some photos of the mess the furry ones made.. but boy, they sure are cute, huh?! the paper mess was really thatchers fault. he LOVES to shred that stuff. mose just liked playing in it :)

my folks got me a goodwill giftcard (which i totally asked for! score! i lovessss goodwill!), a vintage glass deer powder jar (again something i asked for, but didn't expect! there was one at our local shop for about $12, which if you look online, you may notice is a STEAL!)

and possibly my favorite thing - a little dog figurine that my mom has had with her all through the years. she thought it was time to pass him on to me. he is ADORABLE and i was so touched. i tried taking a photo of him, but none of them do the little guy justice. (i'm going to see what i can do about getting a new camera for my birthday! we'll see!) after i got dressed, i asked my mom to take some photos of mose and i, but they came out a little blurry (i should've asked santa for my mom to magically know how to operate cameras..)
willow and my brother in law, dan, and my aunt deb came over for dinner. willow got me this AMAZING book!! i was drooling over it the whole night!

then my aunt and i got to talking about knitting verses crocheting. i can knit while she crochets. since she has dyslexia, being shown how to knit has been a little difficult for her, and my excuse for not crocheting? well, it's hard. and i'm me. haha.. so then i told her about the knifty knitter. i ran to get mine to show her and see if she wanted to borrow it. i bought it back when i started at craft warehouse so i could learn how to use it in case customers had questions. anyway, whilst digging through my closet for all of my knitting stuff, out of NOWHERE, a square metal framed picture fell from over my closet (so not really out of nowhere, i suppose) and hit my arm. talk about goose egg. the worst part, i cried. on christmas. in front of my family. i felt so dumb, but it hurt. luckily, i'm fine now and the swelling and bruising is minimal. i think i was just in shock.. needless to say, that ended my night and my christmas.

i hope everyone else's holiday was swell! if i don't get around to posting again before the new year, have a joyous new year celebration!
p.s. i snapped this photo of mose sleeping under our teeny tree!!
