the other day, i was thinking about all of the neat knick knacks that i have bought this year and how many of them my old roomies have yet to see. and since they are really the only people reading my blog (hi ladies!), i thought it would be fun to do a post about it. and i really just love arranging my little treasures. most of the shots occur in the bathroom, since it is the place with the most light (since it was in the evening).
these two lovelies were christmas gifts from my folks, both from the same antique store down on main street called le stuff antiques. i knew from the moment that i saw the lipstick holder (on the right) that i could use it for all of my brushes and whatnot. i love love love it.
i collect small glass vases, so here are a few. the two birds, as well as the little tin house, are from work (craft warehouse), the little glass container on the left was bought from crate & barrel and is full of mica flakes. the little glass spice container on the right is full of sequins and other shiny beads. i found about 9 of them rolling around at the bins (a goodwill) and snagged them all for 79¢! i threw in some pretties from my rock collection.
the brass shark belongs to my folks. there is another spice jar with jasmine tea in it. the gold glitter and music holder (it hooks onto brass instruments, like trumpets, to hold music for marching band) were finds at the bins again, for mere cents. silver glitter is actually make-up from my junior high days. it's hard to see, but there is a clear bottle from my collection, with a locket hanging on it. the birds were both goodwill finds.
the deer were all bought around christmas time from a little antique store called aunt addie's attic, all for about $6. they have a GREAT vintage clothing selection. the bird was bought at goodwill. since i was born in alaska, i love things made of alaskan clay and since it was a bird, there was no way i could pass it up. the three matching cat figurines were from an antique store called collections in the attic, located in forest grove. the littlest cat figurine is one of my favorites. i (and my mother) can't recall if it was my grandmothers or something they bought for me a while ago. either way, isn't he darling?
the two needleworks were found at various goodwills (for super cheap), as well as the awesome brass peacock candle holder (with candle), the little amber mug i keep feathers in, the lovely teacup and saucer, the itty bitty red chair (which i LOVE! i mean, seriously.. how cute is it?), the wooden owl, and both the red candle holder and avon perfume bottle. another spice bottle from the bins, this time filled with glitter (i found the old bottles of green, white, gold, and red rolling around in the bins - all for 59¢). the old jasmine tin is from our garage, along with the old camera (which belongs to my dad). the tin recipe box came from the salvation army for a buck. the fat tire bottle is full of some of my smaller knitting needles, and i added a butterfly pin my papa gave me and a handmade ornament willow bought for me last year at her schools bazaar. in front of the autumn needlepoint is the little dog my mother gave me for christmas. like i said, trying to get a photo of this little guy seems next to impossible. he always ends up looking like a piece of poop (awful, but true..). but there he is.
the clear glass vase is full of the dahlias that i dried from my bouquet from my sisters wedding last august. the moon pin, flower pin, and purple flower necklace belonged to my grandmother, and i happened to find a clip on earring to match at an antique store. more of my glass collection and spice bottles filled with glitter and beads. the lovely vintage chapel ornament was bought at aunt addie's, and the C letter type, tin, and unicorn bookmark were found at another hillsboro antique store. the frame with babe in it was found at goodwill, the little mint box with the semi nude lady was a gift from my sister to her bridesmaids during her wedding, and the rocks are again from my rock collection.
the photo in back is of my folks and my papas parents taken in the late 70s. i LOVE it. they are all so happy. and look how cute my folks are!
is that the owner inscribed her name and phone number on the temples! i just may have to look her up. perhaps she would like them as a nice memento.
